Royal Society Journals

The Royal Society, the United Kingdom’s academy of sciences, has been publishing journals since 1665, offering an extensive archive of scientific literature.

Subscription Packages:

  • Package S: Access to all journals
  • Package A: Focused on physical sciences
  • Package B: Focused on biological sciences

Read and Publish (R&P) Agreements:

Introduced in January 2021, R&P agreements combine a subscription (Read) fee with a publish fee based on the average APCs from the past two years. These agreements allow corresponding authors from participating institutions to publish open access without incurring APCs at the point of publication, as costs are centrally covered by their library.

The Royal Society is committed to open access, with a goal to flip 75% of its research output to OA within the next five years through its OA75 commitment https://royalsociety.org/news/2021/05/royal-society-open-access-plans/. Under this initiative, journals such as Biology Letters, Interface, Proceedings A, and Proceedings B will transition to a fully open access model once 75% of their articles are published as OA.

Metrics tracking the Society’s progress toward these goals, along with detailed publishing statistics, are available on their publishing metrics page https://royalsociety.org/journals/publishing-metrics/
